#1: Secession Documents Series
While secession and the lead up to the Civil War were very complex, conflict over slavery was certainly central to the South’s decision to leave the Union. This is evident from the Southern states’ own words as they issued the ordinances of secession and documents of explanation as they each left the United States to form the Confederacy. This series presented each state’s secession documents with comments and annotations.
The South Carolina secession post was our #1 read post for 2018 and if taken separately posts from this series would have taken six out of the top ten spots. So we lumped them together for the #1 position on this year’s countdown of top posts. Here are the links for the entire series:
